To My Clients,
After trying semi-retirement for a while, I have decided to close the career chapter of my life and fully retire, effective December 31, 2025. It has been a privilege trying to meet the varied challenges of an eye-opening 44 years in the private practice of law.

I’ve seen some of the best of humanity and some of the worst. I’ve represented small businesses and worked on what may be the largest commercial transactions in Maine’s history. I was honored, as President of the Maine State Bar Association, to serve my profession and the public, and equally gratified to have acted as a guardian ad litem to children in circumstances children should never have to face.

Working collaboratively, with clients and with other lawyers, feels like a calling card. Some of the very best lawyers I know used aggression to serve their clients. I chose a different path, and it worked for me most of the time. Very little gets done when shouting at each other. I always had a personal affinity for working as part of a team and missed that camaraderie during my later years of solo practice. The best businesses exemplify teamwork as a cornerstone for success and some of the best lawyers welcome it, too. Our country should try it.

The office staff that surrounded me throughout my career were indispensable to our success, and I value the contributions of every one of them. Fatima and Jayne each earn a mention here because I just can’t imagine the last ten years without their support. Their skills, strength, patience, organization, and friendship were critical to me as we endeavored to give clients the best legal services.

In 1981, I was admitted to the Maine Bar, while living in a camp with no heat, and drove an old orange AMC Gremlin my baby sister no longer wanted. No cell phone, no email address, no Google or Microsoft Word. Fax machines were recent technology. Getting a Fed Ex package was a big deal. The necessity of face-to-face communication back then lent itself to more personal relationships among clients and lawyers, a tradition I miss. But even as technology has evolved and law has become more specialized, there is one aspect of being a lawyer that should never change, and that is the desire to help clients navigate their challenges by working hard and keeping their secrets. Those were among my purposes for over four decades and now I will need to find new ones. I will miss the competition and collaboration of practicing law and helping clients solve problems. However, I do have one new role and purpose, grandfather to the next generation of Wilkinsons (see photo). And thanks to my wife, Robin, and our four sons, who provided the fuel to make the last four decades an “E” ticket ride*.
Lawyers are keepers of trust, with the heart of the attorney-client relationship being confidentiality. I have valued the trust my clients placed in me over the years, and I will always carry with me the great satisfaction that came from doing this important work. Thank you for the privilege.

Peace,

Les

I've worked with Les for the past 15 years in several capacities. I have used his expert services for advice on the sale of my engineering business as well as complex real estate transactions, large land tract purchases and personal estate matters. Les is fair, honest, exceptional and has integrity in addition to first-rate know-how in his areas of law. I feel fortunate to know him on both a professional and personal basis.

Our company has been a business client of Les Wilkinson for many years. One of the many reasons why we like working with Les is the service we receive from both Les and his assistant Fatima Lima. We can always rely on Fatima to be responsive to our emails, phone calls and requests. The service that Ms. Lima provides to us is invaluable. We always get a very timely, courteous, professional response to our requests. As an officer of the corporation it is assuring knowing that we have this team to support our needs.

My family and I recently sold real estate and Wilkinson Law represented the buyer. It was a pleasure to work with such caring and talented professionals. The entire closing process has been so smooth and much appreciated by our family. Continued health and service to your legal firm and clients in the years to come. All the best!

We sold our business in early 2022 and chose to do so without a R/E broker. Mr. Wilkinson assured us that as a Real Estate lawyer he could safely guide us through the process. This was more than accurate. The sale was not without difficulty, and although the closing date was extended three times, it was not due to any issues with Les and Fatima. They were very responsive and prompt when the responsibility was on them to process paperwork or turn information around.
Although entirely professional, Fatima was very compassionate and understanding when we needed to call and ask (many) questions concerning processes and protocols. Les was 100% on top of anything that might potentially pose any risk or liability to us, as we had never been through the selling process before. At the end when things looked as though they were unraveling a bit he was on top of it and helped us through the difficulty with both sides ultimately satisfied with the outcome.
We would highly recommend this team; we were more than happy.
